Alchemy of Shame, 2025
Inspired by the female experience, of the pain, inherited shame, and the process of reclaiming our narratives.
The Inspiration behind ‘Alchemy of Shame”
Alchemy of Shame dives into a deeply personal journey: grappling with shame that’s been passed down through generations and learned from the world around us.
The piece shows a woman in the tub, trying to wash away that heavy, silent burden we often carry. Instead of being weighed down by it, she tries to break down that shame, transforming it into something raw and freeing. It’s about reclaiming power, resilience, and finding healing in vulnerability: turning pain into strength through art.
From a young age, many of us are socialized to suppress our emotions, to hide vulnerability behind strength or silence.
The idea of her body being center stage was a conversation about how shame often centers on the female body. Seen as something to hide, something to feel conflicted about, especially when society sexualizes that shame.
Beyond the body, shame grows from the impossible expectations placed on us, to be perfect, to be everything for everyone, and when we don’t meet those, we feel powerless and isolated.
However, this piece doesn’t only show shame but encourages the alchemy: a deconstruction of that shame, transforming it from something heavy and confining into something raw, honest, and ultimately freeing.
It’s about reclaiming power from the impossible expectations placed on women.
Shame is not just an individual burden, it’s inherited, woven deeply into the fabric of many women’s lives.
But through this piece, I’m trying to explore how we can break those cycles. How shame can be transformed, even alchemized, into resilience and self-acceptance.
